The Benefits Of Meditation
''Why So Many Benefits?''

Based on recent research you will learn about the healthy benefits of meditation. I must admit, before I really understood meditation, I didn't believe that there could be so many meditation benefits. Heart disease, pain, aging, emotional well-being...

Why are there so many benefits?

Because the mind/brain and body are not really divided. Your mind/brain acts on all parts of your body. Through feedback, the mind/brain interacts with the body parts and the external environment, and it interacts with itself.

Everything you think, say, and do originate in your mind/brain.

The health advantages can thus be traced to the relaxed and peaceful relationship within your own meditating mind and body. Your mind is rested, relaxed, and emotionally stable. So is the rest of you. Every other detailed improvement is interconnected because of the unified mind-body.

You are one unit, not mind and body.

The problem of the science of happiness and meditation is that it must draw information from a vast body of knowledge consisting of many branches of science. The benefits of meditation (and happiness) are difficult to distill because one must review so many sources of information.

Our collected knowledge is still just one massive body. So let's look at some of the branches of science and review their findings...

Stefan Klein writes in his great book The Science of Happiness that he had never seen such immense activation of brain regions linked to happiness, as he did while scanning the brains of individuals engaged in compassion meditation.

In other words, compassion produces immense interaction and interconnectedness within the brain itself.

Meditation in general is an act of compassion for yourself. The meditation benefits - and the story of happiness - continues here...

The science of compassion.
