"There's NO Failure In Meditation"
Feeling like a failure in meditation is often caused by our need for improving meditation and everything else in our lives. There is only the feeling of failure.
Meditation is not about technique, it is about attitude. Meditation means awareness. So feeling like a failure is about emotional awareness and attitude - Perception.
The solution is to adopt a
mindful attitude.
Forget about what other people say or think or do. Stick to one routine and technique for a while, and ask yourself a few tough questions: - Do you go from one thing to another in several areas of your life? Relationships, jobs, hobbies?
- Do you often change your mind? Do you commit to your decisions or do you tend to talk about what you should be doing (or what others should be doing) rather than just doing it?
These questions can be tough to come to terms with, and you should show
compassion for yourself
whatever your answers may be. You need to be honest with yourself if you're going to change a pattern that may be holding you back. There's no failure in meditation unless you perceive it to be that way, just as there's no success unless you choose to believe in it.
And action is the best way to change a perception/belief. I fully support Gandhi's definition of happiness: "Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony."
And the key is in the last part: "...what you do..."
This is why: If you're having a bad day and your thoughts are gray, taking proper action will change how you think and what you say. Any action is a result of brain activity, a result of thoughts (even if you're not consciously aware of them), and stimuli to further thoughts and actions.
Meditating, you become aware of the truth, whatever it may be. You may also become aware of mantras/thoughts that seem strange, as if they don't belong to you.
And they might come from someone else...
Learn more about how to control this process in this article on MIND OVER mantra:
From politics and ads to thoughts and meditation.
As you persist in sticking to your routine and committing to yourself, you become aware of who you are, which thoughts that belong to you, what to pay attention to, and how you're doing on a daily basis. Through action, you improve your meditation (and your life) by improving your attitude and awareness. You can never fail when you persevere. Success/happiness is in the doing and the making. It will always be that way.
You should learn meditation the smart way.
